Oral Presentation Instructions
Abstract
Abstracts should have between 300 and 400 words excluding the title, authors and addresses.Abstracts should be substantive/informative in nature, with a body text written in a single paragraph, with no headings. This body text should include (i) introductory statements, (ii) objectives, (iii) a brief description of materials and methods or methodology, (iv) and the main results and conclusions. The abstract should be consistent with the oral presentation. Descriptive abstracts are strongly discouraged.Abstracts must be presented in the following format:
- Abstracts must be submitted in English.
- Typed using single spacing.
- As a MS Word file (Word 97 or later).
- Arial font throughout.
- First line: Title of your presentation – Arial: 12 point font, uppercase, bold – centre aligned.
- Second line: Authors - Arial; 10 point font. Uppercase - Underline the name of the presenting author – centre aligned.
- Third line: Addresses: Arial; 10 point font - Include the e-mail address of the corresponding author – centre aligned.
- Body text: Arial; 10 point font.
- No figures, tables and references must be included.
- Give at least two, but no more than 5 keywords at the bottom of the abstract.
Abstracts should be sent in digital format before 30th of April, 2011 to the following email address admin@acss2011moz.uem.mz. Abstracts can be uploaded directly to the web (http://www.acss2011moz.uem.mz). We kindly request the contributors to cooperate in this regard. Abstracts received after the due date will not be considered. Abstracts will be reviewed by a scientific panel and authors will be informed about the outcome as promptly as possible.Abstracts will only be included in the program once registration fees have been paid.
Presentation
The maximum time available for oral presentations is 20 minutes. This includes question/discussion time (± 5 min) and speakers should therefore allow for this in their preparation. Adherence to the program schedule will be strict. Power Point will be the only presentation format available. No overhead or slide projector facilities will be available.
Full Papers (for publication in Proceedings)
Manuscripts should be written in MS Word in 12-point Times New Roman font, and should not exceed 6-8 double-spaced, 8.5 x 11 inch pages including figures, tables and references. Papers should include an abstract not exceeding 150 words with 4 - 6 keywords, and the corresponding author’s full address (we encourage inclusion of an e-mail address). The format of the papers should adhere to the rules of the
African Crop Science Journal.
Full papers should be submitted by 10th October 2011.

Posters have to be up for display throughout the conference. There will be designated poster sessions during which authors will have to be available at their posters for discussion.

Poster dimensions may not exceed a length of 120 cm and a width of 100 cm and must be presented in the following format:
- Language: English.
- TITLE: Capital letters; Arial 46 – 48; Center aligned.
- International rules should be followed for scientific names.
- Author(s) names: Arial 32; Center aligned; Underline presenting author.
- Affiliation(s), address(es); include e-mail address of presenting author.
- HEADINGS viz. SUMMARY, INTRODUCTION, MATERIALS AND METHODS, RESULTS, CONCLUSIONS & REFERENCES: Arial 38; Capital letters; Bold; Center aligned.
- The text of the above mentioned content should be Arial 36, preferably justified.
- Acknowledgements can also be included at the end of the text.

Symposia
Two symposia will be part of the Conference program. In each symposium two to three invited
keynote speakers will present their insights and share their experience on the topic. Following
the presentations, there will be an open flow for discussions. Themes of the symposia include:
(1) Impacts and adaptation to climate change in African agriculture and (2) Linking crop science
research to policy, practice and people.

Workshops
Several workshops are part of the Conference program. The workshops will create opportunities
to share key research achievements as well as for discussions, sharing of experiences and drawing
of proposals and recommendations on common issues and problems in African agriculture.
Each workshop will be a 1/2 day event and will be organized in two parts:
- An initial session devoted to presentations where leading scientists in the field are invited
to submit papers.
- A final panel session dedicated to discussion of current constraints and problems and the drawing
of recommendations and future evolutions.
All interested participants are invited to attend, but they will need to register for an workshop
during registration at the first day of the Conference.
The following workshops are planned:
- Workshop #1 - Advances in the research, utilization and commercialization of neglected and
underutilized species: a new push to bring them to the center stage
- Workshop #2 - Women in Agriculture: strategies for promoting the empowerment of rural women
- Workshop #3 - Management of invasive pests: lessons from the recent accidental introduction of
fruit flies in Africa
- Workshop #4 - Advancing research on weed science in Africa
- Workshop #5 - Responding to the demand for high value perishable commodities in fast growing
urban areas in Africa: opportunities and challenges for urban and peri-urban agriculture
- Workshop #6 - Biomass and agriculture energy: opportunities and challenges for African agricultural
- Workshop #7 - Positioning Nematology in Africa - Now and the Future
- Workshop #8 - Pesticidal plants as alternatives to synthetic pesticides for crop, storage and
livestock protection in Africa: optimization, conservation and commercialization
